THE STORY OF HEIDI

 Heidi in Oktoberfest dirndl

~There Is Music In My Soul~

The Early Years...
Growing up in Germany has greatly influenced and shaped my musical style. Surrounded by Alpine Folk and European Popular tunes, the music I heard was melodic with beautiful harmonies.

After moving to Canada, I received classical voice training from Ivan Roschottka and had the chance to perform extensively in the major German Clubs in Vancouver, BC and at many ethnic functions...a memorable moment being when I sang ‘The Happy Wanderer’ to Prime Minister Trudeau.

Moving North...
In 1998, while spending time in  a very remote location near the Artic Circle, the songwriting  bug finally hit me and has
continued to this day.  My love of the North Country has been a natural inspiration for many of my tunes.

After settling in a log cabin in the heart of British Columbia in 1999 I performed regularly at public functions and acoustic music festivals in the Northwest, as well as some live appearances on CBC Radio.

A highlight in my musical career is the formation of Sound of the North band, singing lead vocals, including Alpine style yodeling, at concerts, dances, festivals and Oktoberfest celebrations.

More recently...
When contemplating the making of a solo album, I happened to hear the fine guitar and dobro playing of Nathan Tinkham.  He became instrumental in turning my vision of recording some of my original tunes into reality. My latest album Upper Nechako Country contains a mix of easy listening Northern Canadiana folk and love songs with very complementary arrangements by Nathan on dobro and acoustic guitars.

A few remarks from my cherished audience.....

Your songwriting is fresh and inspiring, and your singing is simply outstanding!

I even love all your German language songs, though I don't speak any German myself.

Your songs are very well composed....they have catchy melodies, interesting lyrics,
and of course, a fantastic presentation due to your strong, emotive, and resonating voice.

I absolutely loved your songs and your singing!
